Rome
Dubbed the Eternal City, Rome is a sprawling, complex city littered with over 2,000 years of ruins, relics and memories – and in our opinion, one of the most amazing places to visit in Italy… and the world.
What to do
No trip to Rome is complete without visiting the Colosseum and Roman Forum, walking the Spanish Steps, stopping at the Best Vatican City Tickets Tour, eating a plate (or several) of carbonara, and tossing a coin into the Trevi Fountain to ensure your return to Rome.
We also highly recommend exploring some of Rome’s wonderful art museums, whether it’s the iconic Borghese Gallery or quieter places like Palazzo Spada.
Florence
Beautiful, walkable Florence is known primarily for two things: its art and food.
As the cradle of the Renaissance and the capital of Tuscany, neither of them is surprising!
What to do
A tour of the famous Uffizi Gallery and a visit to Michelangelo’s David at the Galleria dell’Accademia is a must for art lovers in Florence.
Be sure to also stop by the Duomo, walk the Ponte Vecchio, watch the sunset at Piazzale Michelangelo, and eat lots of delicious Tuscan food!
Venice
Of all the best places to go in Italy, Venice is probably the most unique: there is simply nowhere else on the planet like the royal city of canals, with iconic gondolas and architecture that echoes the history of the rich empire that once ruled it.
What to do
Some of the best things to do in Venice include visiting Piazza San Marco, admiring St. Mark’s Basilica, riding a classic Venetian gondola, and wandering aimlessly through less crowded (but still stunning) corners of the city.
Milan
When looking for the best places to visit in Lombardy, Milan is the place to start.
What to do
Visiting Milan’s incredible Duomo (and especially its impressive roof) tops every list of things to do in Milan, followed by seeing Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper.
Bologna
The capital of Emilia-Romagna is known above all for its food, which may be the best in Italy.
What to do
While in Bologna, don’t forget to climb the Asinelli Tower for incredible views of the city, hunt for the city’s hidden canals, and visit the Madonna di San Luca sanctuary.
Plus, of course, enjoy plenty of food: tagliatelle al ragu, mortadella and traditional balsamic vinegar are just some of the delicacies the region is known for.
